From Seeds to Sprouts to Stalks–A part-Singing Sequence

This session will provide a sequence to build part-singing skills with children. The presentation will give participants an opportunity to examine some basic techniques and folk literature in each level necessary to building successful singing in parts. Songs will be shared to teach secure unison singing [planting seeds] to singing ostinati and descants [sprouts] to singing canons and 2- and 3-part homophony and polyphony [stalks]. These techniques can be used in children’s choirs as well as upper level music classrooms.
